Been quite a while completing this model - new kits would come along to lure me away - some 3 months or so, but i'm finished. As the video segments were sometimes done quite a while apart, i do repeat myself in places. Sorry about that - i really should watch one before i record the next.

Yes indeed. You can tell by the background noise that the first half is before the doors opened and the second was much later when everyone was in. I would like to have filmed more, but i was in demand that day, so got what i could when i could. So, some models are labelled and some are not, so they go: Flyer from the episode Blake, built by Bill Pearson, Shuttle from Orbit, by Ron Thornton, Se...

    Ha, I remember seeing that little alien dude pop out. It was at the movies ages ago.. at the other end of time. Then recreating it many times at school the following week, with a sock on your hand pushed up through the unbuttoned front of your school shirt , while you fell back on a school desk Always got a laugh.

    Thank you very much for this post. Bought issues 1 - 3 and 5 - 6 ( yes, there were 6 issues altogether ) back in the day when they were new but I'd missed issue 4. I forgot about it over the years until seeing this and immediately went to ebay, found it and bought it at a fairly reasonable price. Really looking forward to seeing it. This magazine was EXTREMELY influential for me and literally changed my life !!! I was more into the white metal fantasy figures than the spacships, although I did read the articles and enjoyed them. I was interested in anything about models and miniatures back then. Had been painting the fantasy figures, setting them in little dioramas and photographing them in front of large calendar photos for about a year. Although I'm not really a good photographer ( depth of field, what's that ? ), some of them did turn out half decent though. So when issue 5 of this magazine came out, they had started a Readers Page where people would send in pics of their work and describe it. I sent in a few of my pics and to my shock they published them in issue 6 ! Seeing my name and work in print provided the spark I needed to try my hand at sculpting my own. I must admit, the first ones were crude at best but I kept at it. 5 years later I was working for the company who was featured in issue 1 with the Vallejo figs as a free-lance sculptor ! Was able to quit my regular job to do this full time. A literal dream come true ! That company went out of business 9 years later but I found work in another smaller company and have been with them ever since. Retired 10 years ago now but I still do work for them occasionally . BTW, I too really liked that article on the Victorian spaceships !

    I came across a few of these in a used book store a while back, and they are a real snapshot of history. In an era before 3D printing, or resin kits, or even the internet, it's amazing what people were able to accomplish with the materials at hand. That "Atlantis" diorama, made from an old vacuum cleaner box, is a work of mad genius. Inspirational! Thanks for sharing.

    Your dates and facts are way off. The weeklies in the format you describe only ran from 1972-79, when Dez Skinn took over and revamped the line (Dez did not write any of the columns earlier attributed to Stan). The issue of Mighty World of Marvel you show was from 1975, long before the Hulk TV show. And The Titans was not the only British Marvel title in landscape format; Super Spider-Man also went landscape after absorbing first The Superheroes and later The Titans. All this information is readily available.

    I had this from new as well. I think these comics were formatted like this because British comics stories were only two or three pages long in each comic then continued the next week. Think Beano and Dandy. American comics tended to be one story throughout the comic. I guess it was done to cater for what was perceived as the way British kids expected things to be. Going back as far as Fantastic and Terrific in the late 60s. Loved them all.

    If you want to know more about this history, you should look at Captainstrangelife's early videos, because some where in those videos, in his early vids, he talks IN DEPTH about those early british comic books, especially the Titans comics. He has a youtube channel. And you can ask him or contact him by putting a comment or question on one of his newer videos. he will tell you what video numbers or episode numbers it is where he teaches about that.

    I feel sorry for the British people. For a very long time, until recently, you could not enjoy the comic books like we Americans did, because you didn't have the fabulous color artwork inside the comic book of Neil Adams, Jim Starlin, John Buscema, Gil Kane, Jack Kirby. You also only had some comic books in color, on the covers. Its almost like the United kingdom didn't find the fantastic world of science fiction, pulp, and fantasy that existed in comic books until much later. Your children in the 60s, 70s, and early 80s missed out a lot.

    They recycled The Titans for one of their pocket books range and featured Captain America, Iron Man and Thor reprints from the 60’s.

  • @paulholgate4664
    @paulholgate4664 Місяць тому

    I think they carried on a similar format up to the mid-80’s. There was a Return of the Jedi weekly still in print for a couple of years after the movie came out. Eventually Panini UK took them over and still produce Doctor Who Magazine which launched as a weekly comic in the late 70’s.

    I know DC always had Teen Titans but I've seen at least 2 independent companies with a hero called Titan so I guess they couldn't copyright the name like Thor or Hercules.

    This is a tremendous improvement over the first generation Imai model which was issued to coincide with the initial broadcast of "Thunderbirds" in Japan. The first model did not even have open windows so most builders had to resort to painting the windows sky blue to give it the feeling of having windows. It carried in its pod three elevator cars. I'm glad that an improved TB2 is still currently available almost 60 years later.

    It would be cool to get more British UA-cam content creators to do more comic reviews for British comics.... This is Marvel U.K., so its not that far off the American path, but it's a start in the right direction for someone like me who wants to know whats happening on the other side of the Atlantic.
